Restringing & re-gripping

How do I know when to get my racket re-gripped?

Knowing when to get your racket re-gripped is easy, you can normally tell just buy looking at it.
If the grip is falling apart or looks bald then it needs replacing.
If the grip feels slipery and you struggle to hold it.
If the grip is hard, most rackets have a cusion grip on to provide a bit more comfort.

When should I get my racket restrung?

This is where a lot of people fall down. The common rule of thumb is to restring as often per year as you play per week, but at least twice per year. This is just a rough guideline. Some types of string lose tension faster than others, heavy spin hitters wear strings out much faster than flat hitters, and some players seem quite happy to let the strings decide when to be replaced -- by breaking.
Strings that are a lot more sensitive than people think. If they are old they go brittle & hard, temperatures can also affect them this way eg, leaving your racket in the car or garage over a cold winter.
The advantage of having a well strung racket is that the strings will or should act the same or similar on every shot giving you more consistent shots making it easier to play, they can help prevent injuries like tennis elbow & they can increase or decrease power or spin.
